The Sport Of Boccia

Boccia is a skilful, strategic and exciting sport played internationally.

  • Easy to learn and hard to master.
  • Play socially or competitively.
  • International competitions include the World Dwarf Games and the Paralympic Games.

Our 2016 Paralympian - Daniel Michel

Daniel Michel, 21, was born with a severe disability that affects his ability to move his arms, legs and torso.

Daniel has travelled more than 13,000 kilometres from his hometown of Sydney to compete in the 2016 Rio Paralympics Games, making him the first boccia player to don green and gold in sixteen years.

The 21-year-old, who was born with spinal muscular atrophy - a severe disability that affects his ability to move his arms, legs and torso, achieved his Paralympic dream at Carioca Arena alongside his sporting assistant, Ashlee McClure.
